Remote Jobs - Interview with a Paid Specialist

It’s commonly known that the beginning is the hardest. What was the hardest thing for you to overcome when starting at IMWT?

A challenging element of starting any new job is adapting to new tools, new teams and ways of working.

It’s very easy to disregard how comfortable you become in your work routine and it’s most noticeable when you step out of your previous workplace and into another. If it wasn’t for the lockdown situation in 2020, I most likely would’ve responded to this question with ‘remote work’, however, I found that the lockdown situation actually gave me a great testing ground for working remotely.

What motivated you to pursue a remote job?

The coronavirus/lockdown situation last year had my entire workplace working from home for roughly eight months. I found working from home to be a nice way of working, I felt more organised in my own space, and enjoyed the extra work-life balance that WFH offers. Discovering what works best for me has been making this transition easier.

What are your best tips on working remotely?

I may not live by these tips all the time, but here are some that I have been using:

  1. Setting up your workspace for success is really important when working from home
  2. Stay routined, whether that’s going to the gym, your morning coffee walk or doing some household chores on your lunch break, I think it’s really important to make time to unwind/actively rest away from your desk.

What is the most challenging part of your role?

The most relevant and recent example is changes we’ve seen to third-party cookies and IOS 14.5. The evolving landscape of increased consumer privacy and reduced tracking capabilities, make paid media activity as it is currently more challenging and presents the need for the discipline to pivot and evolve.

What is the most rewarding part of your role?

Delivering results for clients, easily. Crafting a strategy alongside the client with the aim of achieving their business goals and delivering on that is easily the most rewarding part of the job.

Your best tips for someone looking to start out in the Paid Media world?

If you’re looking to start out in Paid Media, there’s a whole host of resources from reputable sources available to you online; countless search & social certifications & courses, industry blogs, news and updates

Anyone interested in working in the field should have a curious mindset and a knack for trying new things while being constantly up to date with the industry changes and updates.
